The Sacred Blueprint of Our Community

The heart of Nawaikama is defined by a physical and social layout that has endured for generations. Unlike modern developments, our village is organized according to an ancestral blueprint where houses are meticulously arranged by Yavusa (clans). This spatial organization ensures that the five primary clans Burei, Navure, Nayavutoka, Burelevu, and Najale reside in distinct clusters, allowing families to remain physically and spiritually connected to their kin. Each home sits upon a yavu, a stone foundation that represents a family’s permanent link to the land. This traditional architecture does more than just organize our space; it reinforces the spirit of Solesolevaki (communal work), ensuring that every member of the village has a support system built on bloodline and shared duty.

The Legend of the Burning Water

Our identity is inextricably linked to our name, Nawaikama, which translates to "Water that Burns." We are the guardians of the Nawaikama Hot Springs, a geothermal wonder that serves as the island’s natural spa. Local legend tells of two female spirits who accidentally spilled droplets of boiling water while traversing the island, creating the springs as a gift to our ancestors. Today, these waters remain a site of restoration and a symbol of our unique geography. As we move through 2026, we are working to enhance the surrounding facilities of the springs to offer an eco-friendly experience for visitors while ensuring the sacredness of the site is preserved for our children.
